Update #2: QOL!


This is the second from a planned series of experimental updates for Joke the Jaker.

Effort has been made mainly at overcoming the most basic shortcomings. We are also aware of a deadlock bug occurring randomly; this will be fixed in the next version as it warrants a partial rewrite.

We also plan to gradually improve the UI, add new cards, jokers, and lore to the achievements, overhaul the PCG completely, and some more things :)


Note: WebGL build is broken. Please resort to downloading the Windows build :(


Major changes:

  • upgrade to world generation
  • better joker placement + one joker is guaranteed near spawn
  • camera zoom rework: you can see more, especially in the down direction, and this scales with how far you can move
  • fixed settings

Content:

  • 1 new card: Hint - shows distance to exit (without texture for now)
  • 1 new joker: Joke of the Day - +1 max energy (without texture for now)
  • 4 new achievements (without lore for now)

Minor changes:

  • tutorial will now only be forced upon first play. This can be overriden with CTRL
  • rebalanced card rewards and card costs
  • buffed Borrowed Gold and Pocket Watch jokers
  • fixed bug allowing to interact with and spawn things out of bounds
  • health regenerates between levels
  • more consistent card shuffling
  • buffed ESC button size B-)
  • improved layout of in game UI
  • fixed tutorial issues when going to next level
  • fixed card action picker on some tiles
  • fixed selected card UI bug when switching levels
  • fixed issue when spamming E
  • hotkeys 1-9 for fast card placement
